Sleeve Gastrectomy

A sleeve gastrectomy, also known as a gastric sleeve surgery, is a weight-loss procedure that involves the removal of a large portion of the stomach, creating a sleeve-shaped tube or pouch. This surgery is performed to help individuals with obesity lose weight by restricting the amount of food the stomach can hold and altering hormonal signals related to hunger and metabolism.

During a sleeve gastrectomy:

Stomach Reduction: The surgeon removes approximately 75-80% of the stomach along the greater curvature, leaving a smaller, banana-shaped stomach.

Remaining Stomach: The remaining portion of the stomach is stapled or sutured closed, and the removed part is permanently separated.
